Stewart’s Melville College

For boys aged 12-17

For over 150 years, Stewart's Melville College has been educating the boys of Edinburgh, Scotland and further afield and helping them become world-class young men.

Here your son can enjoy all the strengths of a traditional all boys' school. He will learn to master intellectual, physical and ethical challenges. As he develops his natural talents, he will grow in confidence, ambition and emotional intelligence. He will emerge an intelligent, responsible and compassionate citizen, fully equipped for the modern world.

One of the most important things about Stewart's Melville is that our boys are proud to be boys.

Academic rigour

Academic rigour

The traditional disciplines of scholarship and study are central to life at Stewart's Melville. Boys are exposed to a range of intellectual challenges and subjects, learning from committed and talented teachers.  We also offer the Baccalaureate to S2 pupils encouraging them to excel in their chosen subjects.

Curriculum

Curriculum

Whether they are learning in class, laboratory or workshop, we expect high standards from our boys. Underpinning all disciplines is a focus on excellence in literacy, numeracy and presentation of work.

Preparation for life

Preparation for life

Of course we expect boys to gain excellent exam results and qualifications, which will open doors to careers suited to their talents, but we place as much emphasis on developing versatile minds, analytical skills and the determination to improve - the keys to a truly fulfiling life.

Twinned with Mary Erskine girls

Twinned with Mary Erskine girls

Alongside the academic side of life, boys are offered many opportunities to challenge and enjoy themselves on the sports field, through creative endeavour and in outdoor pursuits. Here they will benefit from our close twinning with The Mary Erskine School, allowing them to form firm and lasting friendships with girls of their own age.

See for yourself

There is no better way to find out more than to come and see for yourself - meet us on a normal working day, meet the children and their teachers, experience for yourself an education unique in Scotland and see why we are proud to be different. We would be delighted to welcome you to our schools at any time.
