Examination Results 2014

Posted on 05th Aug 2014 in Announcements

Pupils and students are to be congratulated on outstanding results at Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher levels at both Stewart's Melville College and The Mary Erskine School this year.  They are a tribute to enthusiastic learning, a strongly sustained work ethic amongst the boys and girls, and dedicated, stimulating teaching by devoted teachers.

At Intermediate 2, examinations undertaken by pupils in S4, the pass rate at both schools was over 95%, with over 80% of all results across the subject spectrum recorded as As.

At Higher, examinations undertaken by pupils in S5, Stewarts Melville recorded a pass rate of 96% and an 'A' rate of 62%, while the Mary Erskine School recorded a pass rate of nearly 98% with an 'A' rate of 71%.

At Advanced Higher, examinations undertaken by students in S6, Stewarts Melville recorded a pass rate of 96% and an 'A' rate of 56%, while The Mary Erskine School recorded a pass rate of 95% and an 'A' rate of over 53%.

It is worth noting that, in a climate in which boys are supposed not to be capable or willing to match girls in academic endeavours, these results demonstrate that in the single sex environment, in which boys and girls are taught up to the end of S5, with the appropriate teaching methods and plenty of hard work and encouragements, both boys and girls can fulfil their potential and emerge confidently with results of similar calibre.

I congratulate all boys and girls on their determination, ambition and perseverance and thank my teaching colleagues for applying those same qualities in abundance
