Our very own 'Royal' Oak

Posted on 03rd Jan 2014 in Stewart's Melville College

Budding horticulturalist, Matthew (S4) applied to 'The Woodland Trust' in 2012 for a pack of sapling trees and was delighted to receive a Royal Oak grown from seed collected in the Royal Estate.  The tree was planted in the SMC school grounds on 14 December under the watchful gaze of Head Groundsman, Willie Purdie.  Given its royal pedigree, Matthew decided that it was appropriate to plant it in honour of the new Prince George who was born in 2013.
