Model United Nations Triumph

Congratulations to the SMC MUN team who won the 40-team event at Penicuik last Friday, especially Alasdair Austin of S6 who also won "Best Delegate".

The SMC Sixth Form MUN team, debating on behalf of Morocco, had great success at the Penicuik MUN Conference on Friday 7th November. Not only did they win the quaich pictured for 'Outstanding Delegation', having gone head to head against the 37 teams present in the afternoon General Assembly session, but they also enjoyed tremendous individual success in the seven Committees in the morning. Alasdair Austin was crowned 'Best Delegate' in his Committee, and Mauricio Gibson, Evan Adair, Jack Hogarth and Cameron Middleton were all Highly Commended (runners-up) in theirs. Other teams which took part included Edinburgh's George Watson's, Heriot's, Edinburgh Academy and St George's as well as Aberdeen's very strong MUN schools, St Margaret's and Robert Gordon's, plus the top MUN state schools which run their own Conferences. This was a very competative event with strong competition and for the boys to win 'Best Delegation' in both Committees and General Assembly is a considerable achievement, and a fitting reward for their four years of hard work in the activity. Very well done to all of the boys who took part.
