ESMS Campus Expansion

Posted on 21st Jun 2019 in Facilities, ESMS

ESMS is currently undergoing significant development work across both our Queensferry Road and Ravelston sites.

At Queensferry Road, where the Upper Junior School (Primary 4 – 7) and Stewart’s Melville College are based, work has progressed rapidly on our new classroom block which will house eight modern languages classrooms, four RMPS classrooms, two classics classrooms, a CCF store, an outdoor pursuits store, offices and meeting rooms as well as a bright, central circulation breakout space. This is Phase 2 of a wider master plan to rationalise the campus and provide greater separation between the Senior School and the Junior School.  Once complete, our Cromarty building will become a Junior School only space, and children will benefit from additional playground space.

At our Ravelston site we are creating a new, state of the art kitchen and dining facility for our Nursery and Primary 1 children. The new kitchen will also be run by Inspire catering, as our other dining facilities are. The dining space will comprise of five rooms, rather than one large canteen, and feature underfloor heating, plenty of natural light and specially designed booths. Encouraging family-style dining children will eat lunch with their class and teacher in one of our new five rooms. This approach will focus on table manners and help to encourage children to try new foods in a safe and warm environment, mirroring an experience they would have at home.

If the weather is favourable, children will even be able to go straight out to play, as doors open directly onto Ravelston Garden.

Primary 1 will start using the new dining room in August with Nursery children joining them after the October break. As well as the dining spaces, other new rooms have been created including a new medical room, staffroom, Reception, washing room, walk in storage spaces and offices for the Deputy Head, Head of Nursery and Office staff.

We are looking forward to using our new facilities as part of the continuous development plan that ensures the facilities at Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools are first class for the benefit of our students and staff.
